Models of Organizational Change and Transformation: Burke-Litwin Model


In the SLP for this course, you will apply organizational change theories and diagnostic assessment tools to the United States Army. This builds your skills at applying knowledge from one context to another.

You will be analyzing this change process and developing your thoughts about it based on the background material. The larger, more systemic the change, the better. However, substantive change within a unit, function, or division will also work. Substantive change may include things like:
?a new CEO or other senior manager
?changes in technical systems
?changes in size (up or downsizing)
?changes in market focus
?changes in strategy or mission
?changes in major processes or procedures (e.g. implementation of ISO9000 or other quality control processes)

Identify and describe a major change that has occurred, or that is in the process of planning and/or implementation, in United States Army.

Keys to the Assignment

The key aspects of this assignment that should be covered in your paper include:
?What is the organization? Give enough relevant background information to understand the situation.
?What happened, is happening, or about to happen?
?Why do you think this is happening?
?What is the scope of the change process?
?Who and what are involved?
?Who and what are not involved?

For this assignment you were to continue the application of the remaining factors in the model that you began working with in your mod 2 SLP (Burke-Litwin Model) to complete your diagnosis of this organizational change process assessment.

The key questions to be answered for this paper were:
— How well do each of these change factors align with and support the direction of the overall change effort?
— Are there any substantive issues that may need to be addressed? If so, what are they?
— What diagnostic approaches would you suggest using to gather more detailed information, and how would you suggest they be implemented?

Assignment Expectations

Your paper will be evaluated on the following seven (7) points:
?Precision – Does the paper address the question(s) or task(s)?
?Breadth – Is the full breadth of the subject, i.e., the Keys to the Assignment, addressed?
?Depth – Does the paper address the topic in sufficient depth and include the background readings and other background resources as references?
?Critical thinking – Is the subject thought about critically, i.e., accurately, logically, relevantly, and precisely?
?Clarity – Is the writing clear and are the concepts articulated properly? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding to the questions or are points conveyed through excessive use of quotations?
?Organization – Is the paper well written? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are headings included in all papers longer than two pages?
?Referencing (citations and references) – Does the paper include citations and quotation marks where appropriate? Are the references from the background readings and assignment present and properly cited? Are all the references listed in the bibliography present and referred to via citation?
?Application – Are the concepts of the module appropriately applied to the subject?
